4192: The Crowning of the Hit King

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19)  – Filmmaker and Clermont County native, Terry Lukemire presents 4192: The Crowning of the Hit King on Saturday, May 14, 2011, 2p.m. at the Union Township Branch Library.


Mr. Lukemire will be showing clips of the film in addition to talking about Pete Rose and taking questions from the audience.


“A discussion with the filmmaker coincides perfectly with baseball season and the enthusiasm and dedication of local baseball fans,” said Tracey McCullough, Programming Supervisor.


The film chronicles legendary baseball player Pete Rose who became Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader on September 11, 1985 surpassing Ty Cobb with his 4192nd hit.


Philip Koro, programmer at the Union Township Branch Library said, “This film is not only required viewing by any Reds fan, but should be seen by anyone who is even remotely interested in baseball.”

SHARONVILLE (FOX19) - Bob Huggins has been gone from UC for years now, but he's hardly been gone from Cincinnati.

The latest case in point: Huggins will be the guest speaker at the 5th annual Cincinnati Sports Professionals Network (CSPN) Awards Banquet May 9 at the Sharonville Convention Center.

The event pays tribute to athletes, sports professionals, businesses and events for their accomplishments in 2010.

Tickets, which include dinner and the program, cost $75 per person or $700 for a table of 10. Student tickets are also available for $35. FOR VIP, which includes a private reception with Coach Huggins & all award recipients before the event are $100/person or $900/table of 10.

(FOX19) - On April 2nd, Saint Ursula Academy, Ursuline Academy, Saint Xavier High School and Moeller High School will join forces for a first-of-its-kind event to raise money for leukemia research.

On April 2nd, 2011, the four schools will join forces to put on The Orange and White Game at St. Xavier High School.  But this game is no ordinary competition. The Orange and White Game is a fundraising event where students will switch roles.  Rival girls’ schools, Ursuline Academy and Saint Ursula Academy, will go head to head in a flag football game, with two teams composed of seniors from each school. The rival boys’ schools, Moeller High School and Saint Xavier High School, will act as the cheerleaders, competing and performing in the half time show.

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Tickets for the 2011 Western & Southern Open go on sale to the general public starting Tuesday March 1, at 9:00 a.m.

The event takes place August 13-21, 2011 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.  For the first time ever, the venue will host top-tier men's and women's tournaments simultaneously during the same week.

The new combined format joins Rome, Madrid, Miami and Indian Wells (near Palm Springs, CA) as the only other cities in the world hosting the same caliber events for both sexes at the same time.  “For the first time the entire world of tennis will be focused on Cincinnati for one week,” said tournament CEO Elaine Bruening.

This marks the 113th year since the tournament debuted in Cincinnati. The world's top professional tennis players will compete for the richest purse in the event's history, totaling $5.2 million.

Over 60 Young Eagles take flight at Sporty's

BATAVIA (FOX19) - EAA Chapter 174, based at Sporty's home airport (I69), held their annual Young Eagles Rally this past Saturday, October 9. Eight pilots donated their time and their airplanes to give over 60 kids their first taste of flight. Perfect weather greeted the participants, with clear skies, light winds and warm temperatures. It made for a fun day a the airport for everyone involved.

Each Young Eagle received a signed logbook after his flight, with room to log even more aviation adventures. In addition, every Young Eagle is given free access to Sporty's Complete Flight Training Course online.

Duck hunting lottery coming for East Fork Lake, other Ohio Parks.

COLUMBUS, OH – More than 370 permits are available to hunters wishing to hunt ducks and geese from a blind at an Ohio State Park lake this waterfowl hunting season.

The class is for those who use point and shoot and basic settings on their digital cameras.
