Public hearings on Duke Energy rate plan begin next week

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Duke Energy Ohio customers will have their chance beginning next week to testify during local public hearing regarding the utility’s proposed rate plan.

The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) says Duke customers that the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) will hold two public hearings August 30 and two public hearings the week of September 4 to share their opinions of Duke’s nearly 10-year rate plan proposal and the effects it would have on their monthly budgets.

Rep. Jean Schmidt's offices extend hours September 8th

CINCINNATI – Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has scheduled special evening office hours for September to better serve constituents in Ohio’s 2nd District. 

 “Some people find it difficult to leave work during the day to take care of problems they might be having with the federal government,” Schmidt said. “I want to help as many people as possible, so on September 8 we will extend our normal office hours in Clermont County.”

Members of the public can meet with Congresswoman Schmidt’s staff in Milford, Batavia or Williamsburg on Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

  • Milford: City Council Chambers, City Administration Building, 745 Center St.
  • Batavia: Clermont County Administration Building, Third Floor Session Room of the Board of County Commissioners, 101 E. Main St.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) -  Four hearings are scheduled in the coming days on proposed rate increases for the Clermont Transportation Connection, the county's bus service.

The increases would increase rates significantly, doubling them in some cases.

Ohio counties approved for disaster assistance after flooding and storms

WASHINGTON, DC (FOX19) - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan Thursday announced HUD will speed federal disaster assistance to the State of Ohio and provide support to homeowners and low-income renters forced from their homes following severe storms and flooding in April and May.

Wednesday, President Obama issued a disaster declaration for Adams, Athens, Belmont, Brown, Clermont, Gallia, Guernsey, Hamilton, Hocking, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Vinton, and Washington Counties.  The President’s declaration allows HUD to offer foreclosure relief and other assistance to certain families living in these counties.

“Families who may have been forced from their homes need to know that help is available to begin the rebuilding process,” said Donovan.

Clermont real estate tax bill is headed your way

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - “Approximately 40,000 second-half 2010 real estate tax bills are in the mail to taxpayers without bank/mortgage company escrow accounts,” says Clermont County Treasurer J. Robert True.  The deadline for payment is July 7, 2011. 

Taxes can be paid in person; payments are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Clermont County Treasurer’s Office, located on the second floor of the Clermont County Administration Building at 101 E. Main in Batavia.  For citizen convenience, a night deposit is also available at the Main Street entrance of the Clermont County Administration Building (101 E. Main in Batavia) for payment of taxes after regular business hours.

Clermont Commissioner honored by local Masons

BATAVIA (FOX19) - The Sixth Masonic District of Ohio has presented Clermont County Commissioner Bob Proud with the Grand Masters Community Service Award, recognizing his outstanding service to the community as a commissioner and for his work recognizing veterans and those who are currently in the service. 

“Bob goes above and beyond when it comes to serving his community,” said District Deputy Grand Master of the Sixth Masonic District of Ohio Mark Liggett.  “I have known Bob for 25 years and I am always amazed at his dedication and service to Clermont County citizens.”

The award was presented to Commissioner Proud during the May 6, 2011 meeting of the Sixth Masonic District in Georgetown.  The district represents Brown and Clermont counties.
