UNION TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - At the April 3, 2012 meeting of the Clermont Tea Party, Steering Committee members will present a $500 gift to the Yellow Ribbon Support Center.

The Yellow  Ribbon Support center was founded after U.S. Army SSgt Matt Maupin went missing.  The group sent care packages to soldiers with Matt’s picture on them.  Since that time, the group has sent more than 16,000 packages to Iraq, Afghanistan and Africa.  They will send a care package to any soldier whose address they receive.

“This is a natural fit for us,” states Bob Turner, Communications Director of the Clermont Tea Party.  “We’re involved with trying to make things better because we care about our community and our country deeply.  It’s no different for the men and women in the military.  So we honor their sacrifice and want to support them in some way.  It’s the very least we could do.”

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - The County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) has again named Board of Clermont County Commissioners President Bob Proud as chair of the Justice and Public Safety Committee.  The committee makes recommendations on a variety of criminal justice issues in Ohio.

"Given the fiscal challenges that confront counties, it is critical that we find better ways to run our court and criminal justice systems with the same or fewer dollars,” said President of CCAO Deborah Lieberman.  “Many counties spend 65 percent or more of their budget on public safety and justice programs; I welcome Bob's leadership as we look for new ways to save tax dollars."

“I have always had a strong interest in criminal justice and look forward to working on programs and initiatives that can save money, reduce recidivism, and make our communities safer,” said Commissioner Proud, who also chaired the committee in 2011.

How did Jean Schmidt lose her incumbency?

How did Jean Schmidt lose her incumbency?

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -One congressional primary that surprised many on both sides of the aisle was the defeat of incumbent Jean Schmidt by fellow republican Brad Wenstrup.

Schmidt has faced repeated challenges in her seven years in office, but always came out on top and she was the odds on favorite leading up to Tuesday's primary.

"I don't think there's anything that you can point at and say this is the reason that he won or that she lost," said Xavier University political science professor Gene Beaupre.

Beaupre says Schmidt may have thought that she didn't need to run a very vigorous race.

"I think she was confident she would hold her base in Clermont County," he said.

"Congresswoman Schmidt not winning her home county was a critical component here. She lost Clermont County which is her home county, that was a critical piece of it," said Alex Triantafilou, Hamilton County Republican party chair.
