Retired businessman wins statewide award for volunteering

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -  A retired businessman who volunteers with police departments in Miami Township, Milford, Goshen and Loveland was recently honored for his work . 

Gene Bishop also volunteers with Crime Stoppers and Pro Seniors Ohio.  He donates his time performing tasks such as fundraising, speaking to the elderly about senior frauds, coordinating Shop with a Cop, and patrolling Miami Township as part of their Citizens on Patrol, and more.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - An announcement was made Monday morning from State Senator Joe Uckerthat that Amelia High School senior Capri Kowsky is the winner of a $44,000 college scholarship.

Former Clermont Veterans’ Service Commission Executive Director inducted into Military Hall of Fame

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19)  - Former Executive Director of the Clermont County Veterans’ Service Commission, Mr. Dan Bare, is being inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame today for his actions during the Vietnam War. Bare will be presented with the U.S. Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device. Bare was the Executive Director for 5 years and is well known for leading his staff to assist local veterans and their families in Clermont County.

“Congratulations to Dan Bare on this well deserved honor, Dan Bare is not only a purple heart recipient  but also a bronze star recipient and has received the Army commendation for Valor,  the sacrifices which he has made are tremendous, for him to be recognized for his accomplishments is something for which our entire county can be proud," stated Commissioner Bob Proud

Milford Jr. High student wins Earth Day Celebration logo design contest

MILFORD, OH (FOX19) - An eighth grade student at Milford Jr. High is the 2013 Cincinnati Earth Day Celebration Logo Design Contest winner.

Over thirty original Earth-inspired logo contest entries were received from Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky seventh-12th grade students. As this year’s contest winner, Miranda Kunes received $100 in cash and prizes and will be recognized at the 43rd Cincinnati Earth Day Celebration on Sat., April 20, noon-5 p.m. at Sawyer Point.

“I wanted to portray the Earth in a way that brought it “closer” to us,” said Miranda Kunes about her inspiration for the logo design. “Flowers are such beautiful and delicate things and we see them every day, and sometimes take them for granted. By showing the Earth as a plant, it represents that we can and should cultivate and protect our planet, just as we defend a garden or precious flower.”

Clermont County PEOs recognized during Board of Elections event

COLUMBUS – Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted attended an event on Tuesday at the Clermont County Board of Elections to present Jan Schoellman with a Precinct Election Official (PEO) Red Carpet Award.

Presented quarterly, this award recognizes the outstanding service and dedication of PEOs to their local communities.

“Ohio’s poll workers serve on the front lines of our democratic process and it is important that we have the best people in these roles,” Secretary said. “Jan Schoellman has proven herself to be is a model poll worker and I appreciate her dedication to our elections process.”

A retired teacher, Ms. Schoellman was recognized for her hard work and dedication. She has been at the polls for 14 years, working 25 consecutive elections as a PEO for Clermont County.

Union Township man named President of Ohio Liberty Coalition

 

COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19)  – The Board of Directors of the Ohio Liberty Coalition announced on Friday that they have elected Ted Stevenot, 48, from Union Township as President and a member of the Board.  Ted succeeds Tom Zawistowski, who has served as President since July 2011.

Ted is co-founder of the Clermont County Tea Party in southwest Ohio and has been active in the liberty movement in Ohio at the local and state level.  He has provided leadership training to liberty groups around the state, including training in precinct organizing and in the use of blogging, Web sites and social media.
