Groundbreaking scheduled for Lofts at Ivy Pointe in Clermont County

UNION TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A Cincinnati-based developer is set to break ground on the first urban apartment development in Clermont County.

The $13 million Lofts at Ivy Pointe will include 133 efficiency, one-and two-bedroom residential rental units in a four story elevator building on three acres located at the entrance to the Ivy Pointe Business Park. The development is in close proximity to the headquarters of Total Quality Logistics, Jungle Jim’s and a planned Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for Monday, March 11 at 9am.

Ohio EMA announces safe room rebate program

CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Ohio Emergency Management Agency (OEMA) is now offering an Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program that will provide eligible homeowners an 87.5 percent rebate for the purchase and installation of a residential safe room, up to $6,000.  A safe room can be either an above ground or underground space built to be a shelter from tornadoes or damaging winds.  Funding for the Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program is made available through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant program, and the state of Ohio. 

Homeowners may apply for the rebate program online at https://ohiosharpp.ema.state.oh.us/OhioSafeRoomRebate/.  Applications will be randomly selected by a computerized process and the selected homeowners will be notified on or after October 5, 2012.  If your application is chosen, you will be required to attend a one-hour briefing to cover the program rules,

HARRISON, OH (FOX19) – The 2012 Pondarama Water Garden Tour for the east side and Northern Kentucky will happen this Saturday and Sunday.

The self-guided tour runs from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and includes ten places in 7 counties.

The first home on the tour is one in Boone County with a bog garden, which helps purify the water, linked by a 100 foot stream to a pond, with an outdoor kitchen next to the pond, a hot tub built into the landscaping, and a state-of-the-art chicken coop.  They will serve some food to visitors.  The next stop, in Dry Ridge, lets you watch fish from air chairs suspended from a tree. Subsequent stops are in Taylor Mill, Covington at a florist and garden center, Cold Spring, and Fort Thomas.  On the Ohio side, the tour has stops in New Richmond, Batavia, Anderson Township (with a fish cave), and Morrow.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - The Clermont County Animal Shelter (CCAS) and the League for Animal Welfare (LFAW) will team up on Sunday, June 10 and Monday, June 11, 2012 for a collaborative adoption event called On This Day. 

Generally, the LFAW is closed on Monday, and the CCAS is closed on Sunday; during the On This Day event, both shelters will be open on Sunday and Monday.  CCAS will be open Sunday, June 10 from noon until 4 p.m., and from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, June 11.  The LFAW will be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and on Monday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The event is designed to increase public awareness of the many wonderful pets available for adoption in both shelters.  Both shelters are offering discounted adoption fees during the event.  “Both the Animal Shelter and the League are excited to see just how many animals can get adopted during the event,” said CCAS Director Kim Naegel.

Moscow and Tate Township have most building damage in Clermont County

 

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) – The Village of Moscow has the highest dollar amount of damage and Tate Township has the most buildings damaged in the latest assessment of damage in Clermont County caused by Friday’s tornado.

Clermont County building inspectors have now reassessed several structures impacted by the March 2, 2012 tornado and severe weather that impacted the county.  A total of 303 buildings or structures were impacted in Franklin Township, Tate Township, Washington Township, and the Village of Moscow.  The assessment indicates that 55 structures were destroyed, 28 suffered major damage, 153 had minor damage, and 67 sustained slight damage.  The estimated value of the structures impacted by the storms is $14.8 million with a total estimated damage loss of $3.8 million.

COLUMBUS, OH (FOXC19) – Following the violent storms in southern Ohio this weekend, Attorney General Mike DeWine Monday offered a warning to people to beware of traveling contractors who try to take advantage of homeowners in need of assistance.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected by the tornado and storms," Attorney General DeWine said. "Members of my office are in Clermont County now working with local officials to assess the situation and determine how we can help. In the meantime, we want to warn all affected homeowners to be wary of fly-by-night contractors trying to take advantage of this sad situation."
