LOVELAND, OH (FOX19) – This is the time of year when people in general and kids in particular start to spend more tmie in and around swimming pool, ponds, and other bodies of water.

Loveland Deputy Fire Chief Billy Goldfeder has sent out this fairly comprehensive manual to preventing your child from drowning, and reducing the odds that a child drowns in your pool.

This time of year means vacations and many families take their first dip in the backyard, neighborhood or community swimming pool. Many vacations or stay-cations revolve around water whether it is at the community pool, clubs, local beaches, or even water-parks.

UNION TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Tornadoes spun a path across Clermont County, Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky in March, leaving destruction in their wake, and not just physical destruction. The Clermont County chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness is holding a discussion about trauma issues related to disasters. 

Dr. Nelson Rodriguez, Staff Psychiatrist Lindner Center of Hope in Mason, specializes in recognizing and treating those that have been part of a natural disaster. He will discuss issues surrounding complex emergencies and how these emergencies affect people and communities.  He will discuss how people and communities react to disaster, signs and symptoms of PTSD, and how to help.

Mercy Health offers pre-diabetes classes

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Mercy Health will host pre-diabetes classes at Mercy Health locations around the area from January to March. 

Pre-diabetes is a condition that forms before diabetes. It means that blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but aren’t high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Usually a fasting blood sugar level of 100 – 125mg/dl indicates pre-diabetes.  Pre-diabetes is a warning sign that allows people to take action to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

The pre-diabetes classes offered by Mercy Health are taught by diabetes educators who are also registered dietitians.

FELICITY, OH (FOX19) - A coalition of Clermont County agencies will sponsor the Southern Clermont County Health Fair on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Felicity Methodist Church, located at 421 Walnut Street in Felicity.  The event runs from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Health screenings will be offered, including lead testing, BMI, dental screening, blood pressure checks, glucose testing, flu shots, mammograms, vision testing, and more.  Those interested in obtaining a mammogram must contact Mercy Health Partners in advance to schedule an appointment by calling (513) 956-3729, select option 2, then option 1.  Most other screenings will be offered free or at a minimal cost.

All Southern Clermont County Health Fair participants will be entered in a drawing for a flat screen television.  For more information about the health fair, contact the Clermont County General Health District at 732-7499.

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Jewish Hospital Mercy Health Mobile Mammography Unit will make a couple visits to or near Clermont County in the near future to offer women a screening mammogram in 15 minutes at a convenient location. Appointments are required.

UNION TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Beechmont Racquet and Fitness has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 1 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.  The Hoxworth Donor Bus will be parked by Starbucks at 449 Ohio Pike, which near the fitness club and just east of the Anderson Township line.

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) Mercy Health, Donated $10,000 to the American Cancer Society during a special check presentation event on Friday, December 2. 

During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mercy Health launched a campaign to raise money  for the American Cancer Society.
