ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Golfers for Charity (CGC) will hit the links Friday, May 18th with a goal of raising more than $100,000 for area kids. This is the fifth annual 100-hole golf challenge for the CGC, adding to the more than $420,000 raised in the past four years to help afflicted children in the Greater Cincinnati community. The event will be held at The Vineyard golf course in Anderson Township.

Stop Identity Thieves: Free Clermont Community Shred Day Set

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) estimates as many as 10 million Americans have their identities stolen each year.  “Many thieves rummage through your trash to get personal information, such as your Social Security number, and bank account information,” said Clermont Sheriff’s Office investigator Matt Farmer.  “A great way to deter thieves is to shred your personal identifying information before you put it in the trash.”  A free Clermont County Community Shred Day will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services parking lot, located at 2400 Clermont Center Drive in Batavia.

Cincinnati Reds Launch Baseball Camp for Kids in Clermont County

There’s a new team in Clermont County, comprised of the Cincinnati Reds, UC Clermont College, Batavia Township, and the County.  “We are amazed at the welcome we have received in Clermont County,” said Reds Community Fund Executive Director Charley Frank.  The partnership is bringing the 2012 Reds Rookie Success League (RRSL) to the ball diamonds at the Batavia Township Community Center, located at 1535 Clough Pike.  “This is a coed, character building introductory baseball program for kids between the ages of 6 and 12,” said Frank.  “For four weeks, beginning on June 11, 250 children from across the county will be transported to the camp where they will be taught the sport of baseball, but more importantly, they will learn life lessons, including the importance of teamwork.”

Grassy Run Rendezvous Offers Look into Clermont’s Past

At the 20th annual Grassy Run Heritage Rendezvous, set for Saturday, April 28 (10 a.m. until 6 p.m.), and Sunday, April 29, 2012 (11 a.m. until 5 p.m.), you will have the opportunity to take a step back in time and see what it was like to live in Clermont County in the 1700’s and 1800’s.  “This is truly one of the most unique festivals of its type in the area,” said organizer Ron Shouse.  The Rendezvous will take place at the Williamsburg Community Park.  On Friday, April 27, local schools and home school students will attend the event.

New Signs to Direct Visitors to General Grant’s Birthplace

You are invited to attend a special ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Point Pleasant birthplace of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States and a Union General.  “We will be unveiling new signs from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) that will be on I-275 near the New Richmond exit, directing visitors to U.S. Grant historic sites along US 52,” said President of Historic New Richmond, Inc. Linda Shuck.  On Saturday, April 28, a daylong celebration is planned at the birthplace recognizing the many accomplishments of President and General Grant; this marks the 190th anniversary of his birth at the tiny house listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Need help preparing meals that are low cost and healthy?  Consider attending a free session from the Ohio State University (OSU) Extension Clermont’s Family Nutrition Program (FNP).  “We can present nutrition education, healthy eating, smart shopping, and cooking on a budget classes,” said Mona Glover, FNP program assistant.  “We can schedule classes in the community or bring people here to our offices on the Clermont County Fairgrounds.  Classes can be targeted to teens, seniors, anyone.”

Clermont Civil War Committee Planning Community Events

The Clermont County Civil War Commemoration Committee (CCCWCC) is working on a variety of events to increase awareness about the 150th anniversary of the Civil War (1861-1865).  “The CCCWCC is an affiliate of the Clermont County Historical Society; members include local government leaders, historians, and citizens,” said organization chair Harold Paddock.  “We are exploring ways to work with the community on educational programs and demonstrations, commemorating Morgan’s Raid and its path through the county, and sponsoring several lectures with a Civil War theme.”
