CINCINNATI (FOX19) -- More than 20 local nurseries and garden centers are selling living Christmas trees this season.
Living Christmas trees are sold balled and wrapped in burlap or in a container. After Christmas, the trees can be planted outside.
The Living Christmas Tree list is compiled by Taking Root, a regional campaign to plant 2 million trees in the Tristate by 2020.
The area has seen a historic loss of the region’s tree canopy due to the emerald ash borer, Asian long horned beetle and other invasive insects as well as invasive plants like honeysuckle that deter native tree species from regenerating, Taking Root says.
