Appalachian Festival Is Back Mother's Day Weekend

Appalachian Festival Is Back Mother's Day Weekend

Mother’s Day weekend in Cincinnati just isn’t the same without the region’s most popular spring festival – the Appalachian Festival. And the three day event is back – May 11 to 13 at Coney Island – packed with down home fun for the whole family.

The 43rd annual Appalachian Festival -- presented by The Appalachian Community Development Association to help raise awareness of Appalachian culture – will re-create authentic mountain life with music from the hills performed by great bluegrass musicians, foot stompin’ dance performances, storytelling, more than 100 hand-craft artisans, a pioneer village and multi-media coal mining exhibit, and mouth watering mountain cooking.

UNION TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - A local Destination Imagination team from West Clermont Schools, The Destinators, banded together to make a difference in their community. Six local 7th graders chose to participate in D.I.’s Project Outreach, a community service competition challenging kids to find a need, take a stand, and make a difference.

This group of kids is passionate about the arts in education and was saddened by the recent school board cuts in the West Clermont district that took away all art programs for elementary school kids.

They partnered with Second Story, a local start up arts center, and hosted a free community art event called Be ARTrageous to give kids the opportunity to participate in various forms of art as well as helped jump start Second Story's class sign ups.

The event was a huge success. Over 300 people came and many kids signed up for continuing art classes at Second Story.
