State taking comment on report on Milford's contaminated aquifer |
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
MILFORD, OH (FOX19) - The Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Health Assessment Section, in cooperation with the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), is taking comments on a recently released "draft initial/public comment Public Health Assessment (PHA) document" for the Milford Contaminated Aquifer site, which is located in Milford.
The site has been known to be contaminated with volatile organic compounds for more than 25 years. Milford takes steps to remove the compounds from public water, but the report says they don't know what hazards may exist for people who get water from the aquifer through private wells.
The Milford Contaminated Aquifer site was added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Priorities List (NPL) of Superfund sites in March 2011. The PHA report reviews available environmental data and makes conclusions and recommendations about the public health threat posed by the site. The public comment document is provided to allow communities and interested parties an opportunity to identify issues within the document that are missing, incorrect, or are unclear as written.
The public is asked to review the document and to provide comments or questions to the Ohio Department of Health by March 15, 2012. The document is available for public review on the ODH Web site: http://www.odh.ohio.gov/ASSETS/DCF536E9511D47C99110730C94B8D81F/Milford Contaminated Aquifer_PHA_PC_01-30-2012.pdf. A printed copy of document is also available for public review and comment at the Clermont County Public Library, Milford-Miami Township Branch, 1099 State Route 131, Milford, OH 45150.
