OVI checkpoint planned for Columbia-Tusculum, Milford

OVI checkpoint planned for Friday evening in Columbia-Tusculum.

(FOX19)- The Hamilton County OVI Task Force announced that two checkpoints are planned for this weekend in the Tri-State.

On Friday, a checkpoint will be held in Columbia-Tusculum in the 400 block of Delta Avenue, lasting from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Additionally, an OVI checkpoint will also be set up on Saturday in Milford. The exact location and time has not yet been released.

Police are reminding individuals who plan on consuming
alcohol to find a designated driver or make other travel arrangements before
drinking.

CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19)  - In partnership with Total Quality Logistics and Cintas Military Recruiting Department, Workforce One of Clermont County will be offering a 'Veterans Return to Work' Training. 

This is a two-day class to be held on April 29th, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and May 1, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm. 

This training class is designed specifically for Veterans to assist them with transitioning into their next career in the civilian world. Veterans will have the opportunity to learn how their Military experience and skills are an asset.  The training will include resume writing, interviewing and job search skills.

Toddler dies after being found in pond

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19)- A 22-month old boy has died after he was found in a fish pond at his grandparents' home.

Tatum Ray Kaylor was found around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a fish pond on Bear Creek Road in Washington Township.

Kaylor was taken to Children's Hospital, where he died Wednesday night.

According to police, the grandparents were with Kaylor in the garage when he walked away from them towards the house.

Police say a few minutes later, the grandfather went to the house to check on Kaylor and found him floating face down in a fish pond near the residence.

Kaylor's grandfather reportedly administered CPR at the scene while the grandmother called 911.

Construction begins Monday on Eastgate roads

BATAVIA TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Construction is set to begin Monday for improvements that are being made Eastgate North Frontage Road and Eastgate Boulevard over State Route (SR) 32.

Clermont County Engineer Pat Manger announced on Wednesday that work will begin on both projects on Monday, April 22. Advance signage notifying drivers of related traffic impacts will be placed in the area this week.

“Improving safety, reducing congestion and supporting better traffic flow through the area are our primary goals for all of the work we do,” said Engineer Manger. “Transportation improvements in the Eastgate area will happen in a coordinated sequence,” he continued. “Last year, we began work on Eastgate North Frontage Road. We will continue – and complete – that work this summer. In addition to the Eastgate North Frontage Road work, we will also begin work on relocating the existing westbound entrance and exit ramps from SR 32 to Eastgate North Drive.”

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - This summer, Cincinnati Recreation Commission is offering the trip of a lifetime for the 17th consecutive year. CRC’s RiverTrek 2013 – July 22 through 26 – is a weeklong, 75-mile trip canoeing and camping along the Little Miami River.

You don’t need to be an expert on the outdoors to enjoy RiverTrek. Canoeing and outdoor skills will be taught throughout the week. In addition to being able to handle a canoe, RiverTrekkers will learn about each other and themselves. Teamwork and leadership skills are stressed as much as paddling abilities.

RiverTrek 2013 is a free program with a nominal $10 registration fee (scholarships and forms are available in the online registration packet to assist with the fee if necessary). A CRC membership is required. The deadline for registering is May 1.

New resources announced to boost firefighter safety in Clermont County

WASHINGTON D.C. (FOX19) - New federal resources have been awarded to a fire department in Clermont County.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown announced on Wednesday that the Miami Township Fire and EMS has been awarded resources for operations and safety by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

Our first responders put their lives on the line every day across Ohio,” said Brown. “These funds ensure that firefighters in Milford have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely.”

This is round 22 of the competitive Fiscal Year 2012 AFG announcements. The Miami Township Fire and EMS in Milford was awarded $214,470.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
