BATAVIA (FOX19) - 2nd District Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is closing a longtime office in downtown Batavia, but her staff expects to announce a location for a new office in the next few days.

The part-time office has been in a county-owned building on Main Street, but the county has moved its other offices out of the building, leaving only the small Congressional office and some county technical facilities.

A spokesperson said they want to maintain a Clermont County office and are working on a deal to do so. He wouldn't say what town the office will be in until the lease goes through. He said they just need a small space, but the government requires them to only sign a two-year lease to match a congressional term, which is shorter than many business landlords want.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - The Board of Clermont County Commissioners (BCC) was expected to approve the lease of office space in a county building for Representative Jean Schmidt (R-Miami Township) today (January 12, 2011); the two-year lease for the 267-square foot office, located at 175 E. Main Street in Batavia, called for providing the office to the Congresswoman at no cost.  However, the county recently received a letter from Congresswoman Schmidt indicating that after reviewing various Second Congressional District offices, she has decided not to renew the lease for the Batavia office.  “While I am terminating our arrangement for the Batavia site, I am working with others interested in extending the Congressional office’s presence in Clermont County to provide our constituents with a local office to better serve their needs,” said the letter from Rep. Schmidt.  Since taking office in 2005, members of Rep.
