Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Clermont County Fallen Heroes Memorial - 5/14 at 10am

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) – The Fallen Heroes of Clermont County Memorial Committee is launching its announcement of a new Veterans’ Memorial with a ground breaking ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, May 14 at 10am near the Matt Maupin Welcome Pavilion in East Fork State Park.

The committee is made up of Clermont County residents and professionals who are designing, funding and installing a memorial that will serve as a dignified tribute for the 14 Clermont County military who have given their lives in service for the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.  An official Ribbon Cutting ceremony will be held this fall, the members hope to have the memorial installed and ready for the ceremony by Veteran’s Day this November.  The ceremony will be open to the public, with a special focus on the Gold Star families; the immediate family members of a military person who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19)  – Safeguard your identity, clear your home of paper clutter and help protect the environment, all in one event!  The Clermont County Community Shred Day is a free, environmentally friendly and secure way for county citizens to safely dispose of private documents.  The event will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services parking lot, located at 2400 Clermont Center Drive in Batavia.

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - Mr. Ed Humphrey, President of the Board of Clermont County Commissioners, presented Chief D. Jamey Mills of the Milford Police Department with a proclamation declaring May 12–May 18 as Police Week in Clermont County. National Police Week is dedicated to honoring America's law enforcement community and May 15 of each year is designated as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. During the proclamation presentation, Commissioner Humphrey stated, “Law enforcement officers are our guardians of life and property, defenders of individual rights, serving on the front lines in the battle against crime and are dedicated to the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

EastGate Mall partners with Clermont County Schools for summer reading series

EASTGATE, OH (FOX19) - EastGate Mall has announced a newly formed partnership with West Clermont Local Schools. 

Each month, teachers from elementary schools throughout the school district will devote a Saturday morning to reading stories to children of all ages at the EastGate Mall play area. 

The first event is this Saturday, May 11, at 10am.  These events are free, open to the public, and families with children of all ages are encouraged to attend.

Future events will feature meet and greets with costumed characters and give-a-ways.

OVI checkpoint set up in Clemont County

OWNESVILLE, OH (FOX19)  - The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with Owensville Police Department and Clermont County Sheriff's Office, announced that an OVI checkpoint will be held Friday from 8:00pm to midnight on US 50, west of SR 132, in Village of Owensville, Clermont County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Barbara Barrett, Senior Investigator with the U.S. Department of Labor, and Melanie Breen, Enforcement Supervisor U.S. EEOC, will be conducting their popular Human Resources Seminar at Workforce One of Clermont County on Thursday, May 16th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

This training is designed for human resources professionals and business owners to learn the latest information on labor and discrimination laws. The main topics of discussion will be the Fair Labor Standards Act and the latest changes ushered in by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Open questions are welcome!

Free bus rides for bike riders on May 17

Free bus rides for bike riders on May 17

(FOX19) - To celebrate Bike to Work Day, bicycle commuters can ride the Metro and Tank bus or the Clermont Transportation Connection (CTC) for free on Friday, May 17.

Bike racks are located on the front of all Metro, TANK and CTC buses and can be used at all bus stops including Government Square downtown. Each bike rack can accommodate two bikes.

Metro and TANK were recognized as “Bike Friendly Destinations” for providing advocacy and infrastructure improvements to support bicycling for employees and riders in 2011 and 2012.

Metro and TANK will also be at the Bike to Work Day Celebration on Washington Park on May 17, from noon to 1 p.m., to demonstrate the ease of biking and riding buses. Visit http://www.queencitybike.com/ for information on Cincinnati Bike Month activities.
